We all have an idea of ourselves, an innate sense of identity that we latch on to and retain throughout our lives.

We’re all familiar with cliched sayings such as, “I am who I am” or “I’ve always been like this” and so on…
But sometimes, in order to step into a new life, a new way of being, you need to let go of the old one.
Let’s explore how we can do this:
Firstly, see yourself as others see you, that is, take yourself outside of yourself and really look into who you currently are.
For example, imagine you are a mechanic, a mechanic looks at an engine and diagnoses a problem, then once it has been confirmed, they fix it – i.e.: replace the part, repair the part etc.
You need to view yourself in a similar and objective fashion, no emotional attachment to your old self, adapt, evolve and get working on improving or changing your idea of who you have become.
Don’t focus on the thing you want to change about yourself, instead, look at the habit(s) that formed that thing in the first place. Essentially, things don’t happen TO us, they happen FOR us.
They happen for us to decide to make changes in our lives, they happen for us to find our why, and they happen in order for us to become the best version of ourselves.
Summary
How much of who we are, is who we REALLY are? How much of our identity is learned and how much of it is in our DNA?
Key Takeaways:
Sometimes the person we think we are, the person we have become is just a culmination of learned, inherited or simply imagined experiences, which can become a cage or a chrysalis depending on how we perceive things.
To truly be, to truly live your so-called truth, sometimes letting go of the life you knew – which can include switching social circles, moving away or just having therapy – can be the best way to achieve your full potential and become who you might be.
