How To Find Your Purpose And Unlock Your Full Potential

There are numerous methods and concepts available to help you on your journey to finding your true purpose in life.

Some of these include: IKIGAI (“Finding Your Purpose”), Wabi-Sabi (“Embracing Imperfection”) and Kaizen (“Seeking Continuous Improvement”), or you could simply go travelling to do so-called ‘soul searching’.

Whatever method you adopt, to help you on that journey, here are 4 questions you should ask yourself to help you get closer to the answer(s) you seek when trying to find your purpose and unlock your full potential:

Question #1: When Was The Last Time You Experienced Joy?

Not just short-lived joy relating to your favourite sports team or person winning a match or game, or the joy related to eating your favourite sweet treat!

I mean genuine, child-like joy, think back through your life in recent years or even as far back as your childhood, then hold that thought – when was it? How old were you? Where were you?

Question #2: What Were You Doing?

Following on from the first question, once you have established a time when you last experienced joy, think about what you were doing.

Are there any patterns connecting that activity to your day-to-day life? Have any surprising or forgotten interests and passions come to light? Make notes.

Question #3: Do You Utilise Your Natural Strengths On A Daily Basis?

Everyone has a ‘natural strength’ (or two), it may be so obvious that you can’t see it immediately, but it’s there, take some time to figure this out.

Do you like talking? Like writing? Like singing? Or maybe you like organising things? Perhaps taking things apart and putting them back together is your thing, you get the idea, once you’ve been able to determine your natural strengths, ask yourself how many of these you are using daily in your current work or everyday life.

Question #4: How Did You Feel Valued Today?

Maybe it was a simple “thank you” from someone you value and respect, perhaps at work your boss commended you on something you did? Take a moment to think about this and answer honestly.

Feeling valued can have a positive influence on what you do and others around you. Encouragement and recognition also make a significant impact on the organisations we work in and the things we do, ultimately making you feel motivated and empowered to do your best work.

Summary

You can ask yourself these questions daily, weekly or as and when you feel the urge arise. The more you ask these questions, alongside other methods and concepts you may be exploring, you too will find your purpose, your why, or at least get closer to finding that out and unlocking your full potential!
