If we didn’t want anything, if we didn’t want to do anything or we never had a desire for anything, we would never pursue anything and as such, would ultimately never achieve anything.

If you’ve ever had a goal or an ambition to do something that has not yet been successful, perhaps you need to examine WHAT it is you desire, before working on trying to be successful?
Let’s explore how or why the starting point of all achievement is desire…
The Starting Point Of Achievement
Looking at the root of this quote, think about it, you’ve been going to the gym for a few months and have been able to lift a weight of 10Kg on your arms doing barbell curls, however, you decide this is no longer challenging and you now want (that is, you now desire) to lift 20Kg.
Now, with this ‘desire’ in your mind, you set about increasing the weight on your barbell curl exercise over the course of a few sessions, and after 2 weeks, you are successfully able to lift 20Kg, you have achieved your goal – it started with the desire for something.
Think about anything you have achieved in life, even something as small as baking cookies, before anything else, before getting utensils, before getting ingredients etc, there is an initial desire for cookies, whether you had them recently, saw them somewhere or just heard people speaking about how tasty they are.
There was something that instilled that initial desire in you to want to make it and at that point, you then started to research recipes for cookies – different methods, different ingredients, and then you set about trying to make them.
After a few attempts (depending on your culinary skills), you will eventually succeed in making cookies, and thus achieve your objective.
Summary
So, in summary, the point of this quote for me, is to remind us that, whatever we want to achieve in life, we must first start with the question, ‘what do we want?’ in order to determine a desire.
Then, if the desire is strong enough and you believe enough, no matter what hurdles you encounter, no matter how many rejections you get or how many failed attempts you experience, you will eventually achieve your goal and thus be successful.
Here are some key takeaways that this quote can inspire in all of us:
Key Takeaways:
The trick is not necessarily in achieving our goals, it is in establishing them, in other words, establishing a desired result.
Let that desire guide you, let it become your ‘why?’
Believe in yourself no matter what and stay consistent.
