As mentioned in part 1 of this post (see "suggested posts"), the music industry is constantly evolving, not always for the better, but mostly (we hope) it is heading in a direction of positive change and adapting accordingly to whatever challenges are encountered.

In the midst of this change and all the technological developments, all the contentious debates about streaming, royalties, diversity and fairness, are people, people are the constant, not the variable.
Some of these people are direct employees, others are suppliers or business partners, including artists on your roster and smaller labels you provide services for such as distribution.
In order to get the best out of all parties, here are 5 more actionable ways you can foster a positive work environment in the music industry – no matter which sector you work in:
#1: An Understanding Boss/Leadership Team
Nobody likes to feel like they can’t approach their boss, nobody wants to lie, pull sickies or other tactics to avoid having to speak to a line manager. Remember, your employees, your team, they are people, people with families, people with friends and people with lives outside of their work and career, so no matter what, be understanding, be patient and be empathetic.
#2: Being Trusted
Trust your employees in all areas – to get the work done, to be responsible, to have valid ideas and contributions that will make a difference. Trust that the people you hired to do a job, can and will do just that!
#3: Space To Be Creative
We all need this, no matter what your role, we all need some space for our mind, and to be with our thoughts and to come up with ideas, to solve problems, to design, to make and create amazing things. Do you facilitate this?
#4: Space To Be Reflective
In the same vein as point #3, we all need the space to be alone with our thoughts, time to reflect and process the day, the project and life, it is important for all.
#5: Lack Of Gossip
An unfortunate part of life is that there will always be gossip and rumours, however, if you’re getting the first 4 points from this post right (and the other 5 from part one), this shouldn’t be something too concerning as they’ll be so busy singing your praises, there won’t be time to indulge in anything negative.
Summary
People are at the heart of everything that happens in business, no matter their job title, age, gender or career experience, businesses do not exist in a vacuum without the human beings that start them, work in them and build them.
Remember, if you are a business leader, people manager or in another senior role within an organisation, have a think about your own company or team environment, how many of these 5 methods do you have in place to create a positive work environment for your team?
As reminded in the first post, the best time to start was yesterday, the next best time is today, take action now!
